Intel Xeon E7 v3 CPUs to launch in Q2 2015

In October, we reported on Intel's plans to launch Xeon E5-4600 v3 and E7 v3 processors in the second quarter of 2015. The E5 CPUs are aimed at quad-socket systems for mainstream market, and will replace currently available E5-4600 v2 series. The E7 v3 products, codenamed Haswell-EX, target mission-critical and enterprise servers. As the code name suggests, they will be based on Haswell architecture, and incorporate such new Haswell technologies as TSX and AVX2 instructions. Other distinguished features of these CPUs will be increased number of cores, larger L3 cache size, greater memory bandwidth, and support for both DDR3 and DDR4 memory. Top of the line E7-8xxx v3 SKUs will have up to 18 CPU cores, and up to 45 MB of L3 cache. Specifications of individual SKUs are not yet known, but we now have a list of model numbers, planned for Q2 2015 launch.
The standard-power E7 v3 lineup consists of only 11 SKUs, as opposed to 19 SKUs for the v2 series, and that signifies the biggest change in the product positioning. The E7-2800 v3 series is now gone, and it is not on the 2015 roadmap. There will be also more strict separation between E7-48xx and E7-88xx lines, as the former one will cover only the basic and standard segments of the Mission Critical and Enterprise market, and the latter one will target advanced and segment optimized sectors. Due to this change, all "advanced" SKUs will be missing from the E7-48xx v3 series, and the only 4-socket E7 models on the current roadmap are Xeon E7-4809 v3, E7-4820 v3, E7-4830 v3 and E7-4850 v3.
The E7-8800 v3 lineup will stay mostly unchanged. Xeon E7-8860 v3, E7-8870 v3, E7-8880 v3 and E7-8890 v3 will be available for mainstream market. Intel will also offer E7-8867 v3, E7-8891 v3 and E7-8893 v3 segment optimized SKUs, which will replace E7-8857 v2, E7-8891 v2 and E7-8893 v2 microprocessors. Similarly, Xeon E7-8880L v2 CPU for low power and dense servers will be succeeded by E7-8880L v3 SKU.
The third generation E7 microprocessors will be paired with C602J chipset, and use C112/C114 scalable memory buffers.
