al meu are 4 cabluri. dar sincer nu am incercat niciodata daca merg toate.

Bagă nişte teste cu două hard-ul S-ATA, cu RAID pe placa de bază şi RAID prin controller. Mi-aş lua alt controller şi eu, ăsta pare-mi-se că-mi limitează SAS-urile, cât de cât (la RAID 0 nu atinge mai mult de 160, deşi ar trebui să ajungă lejer la 250).

Cel mai ieftin SSD care se poate gasi pe piata acum costa 400ron, vine de la Kingston si are 40GB. E un MLC, desigur, dar poate efectua mai multe IOPS decat orice alt harddisk.

Si e Intel inside, la fisiere mici e mult mai bun decat orice Samsung / Indilinx de pe piata

Kingston SNV125-S2BD/40GB

La ratele de citire / scriere e mai slab ca al tau dar la fisiere mici (4K) e distrugator (ca orice Intel defapt ). O sa public in curand un round-up cu toata gama de la Kingston (V, V+, M, E) si o sa vezi acolo mai exact...

Ma tenteaza acest Kingston de 40gb, sa schimb hdd-ul din laptop. O sa simt un "boost" considerabil de performanta fata de hdd-ul de 5400 RPM? De asemenea, ma gandesc ca in banii astia mi-as putea lua, la fel de bine, un HDD de 2,5"@7200RPM, de capacitate considerabil mai mare... Iar apoi vine problema rularii aplicatiilor mari (ex: jocuri) de pe un hard extern conectat pe USB, care mi-ar cam anula sporul adus de SSD. Deci, merita cei ~360 RON acest SSD, in cazul meu?

Din experienta mea diferenta intre un hdd clasic si un ssd e enorma in orice inseamna folosire de catre un utilizator normal in viata de zi cu zi, boot si shutdown times mult mai mici, aplicatiile de orice fel se incarca mult mai repede unele chiar instantaneu, overall e un upgrade de viteza major de la un hdd clasic fie el de 3.5 sau mai ales 2.5.

Ideea e ca vei avea un spor de performanta pentru OS, in principal, dar pierzi foarte mult pe partea de stocare, in cazul in care ai laptop si esti (foarte) limitat de interfata USB. Adica aplicatiile mari, stocate pe un HDD extern se vor incarca mai greu. Nu stiu at de bine e sa tii, de exemplu, un hdd extern, pentru torrente. Sau chiar si vizionarea filmelor HD ar putea fi afectata, avand in vedere bitrate-ul mare al unui 1080p, de exemplu.

De fapt, intrebarea mea este: Imi va penaliza un hdd extern performanta pentru fisiere/aplicatii mari atat de mult incat sa nu pot folosi cum trebuie acele fisiere/aplicatii?

Nu prea am experienta cu HDDurile externe dar exista SSD-uri accesibile si de 128GB ca sa nu mai vorbim ca am vazut laptop-uri care suporta 2 hdd-uri asa incat ai putea monta un ssd de 40 si un hdd normal pentru stocare.

Dar ma indoiesc ca de pe un hdd extern de calitate nu poti viziona filme 1080p...

Eu ma refeream strict la cel de 40 GB, altele mai mari nu prea intra in buget. Iar hardurile externe, toate se plafoneaza la ~ 30 MB/s, din cauza interfetei USB 2.0.
Laptopul il am deja, si nu cred ca ma apuc sa-l modific sa mai poata acomoda inca un hdd .
Cred ca mai astept sa mai scada preturile, si o sa iau atunci un SSD de capacitate mai mare. Mersi oricum pentru ajutor!

daca ar fi sa pun doua V+ de 64GB in RAID0 pentru OS si aplicatii, care ar fi valorile optime pentru stripe si cluster size? 10x!

2 x Kingston SSDnow! V+ 64GB - RAID0 ICH10R (Biostar TPower I45) - 128k stripe
Testele sunt facute de pe sistemul instalat pe HDD, cu KIS, Firefox, uT etc pornite. Fiecare test a fost repetat de 3 ori.
